Here's what Gil does for a living and how he drinks his coffee...
Having spent most of my adult life in advertising, marketing and writing copy as well as books, I'm sure you can now picture me with that big coffee cup in my hand or close by most of the time.
Take a look at my freelance copywriting and book writing website to see what I do or if you have an interest in writing.
Since I spend a great deal of time at my desk in front of the computer, and I sometimes feel that my brain won't work without a big cup of coffee next to me, I drink a lot of coffee. And I'm rather fuzzy about my coffee.
So let me share my coffee habits with you. OK, you probably don't care, but read on anyway, you just might get something out of this.
First of all, I like my coffee with a lot of milk, about a third of the cup, sort of like a latte, so I need a good strong coffee, but not a bitter coffee, I like a lot of flavor. And I've tried numerous different coffees.
One I liked awhile back, was Seattle's Best House Blend. I've been a fan of Starbucks for a long time although some of them are bit strong for my taste, Starbucks' Pike Place blend was perfect for my tastes. But then I found a coffee very similar but with more flavor and a lower price...
Earth's Pride Organic Sumatra Estate 100% Arabica. And I get the big bag since I drink so much of it. Just in case you want to discover why this is Gil's favorite, Here's a link to Amazon where you can get a good deal on it:
OK, so now I have this coffee cup filled 1/3 with milk. Then I add some sugar, at least a tablespoon. Since a long time ago, realizing that this much sugar wasn't good for me I switch to Sugar in the Raw, figure that the vitamins and minerals that are still retained wouldn't be as bad as white sugar without any nutrients at all. Now I've discovered coconut sugar, it adds a nice flavor, doesn't spike your blood sugar level and is full of nutrients.
Then a take this little hand-held frapper to foam it up. Then, since this amount of milk would cool off my coffee, I heat it in a saucepan. For years I would use the microwave until I finally realized that a microwave is a devil's machine, destroying all nutrients.
The coffee maker I use is very important also. It has to be able to grind the beans before brewing. If you haven't experienced the taste of coffee made with fresh ground beans, you don't know what you are missing.
And there's nothing worse than coffee with that burnt taste from the hotplate of a coffee maker. So long ago I started transferring the coffee from the coffee maker to a carafe as soon as it is brewed. Then I finally found a coffeemaker with a carafe big enough to hold a full pot of coffee.
In case you are interested in the coffeemaker that has made me happy:
Do you know how long caring folks and medical doctors have been telling me that coffee was bad for me? So I chuckle now that all these studies are coming out saying that coffee is actually very good for you! Supposedly it contains high levels of antioxidants, more than vitamin C! And now there are say it is for your heart! You can read the full story on health benefits of coffee here.
What's the best way to brew your coffee? I've got a page full of tips. I kept hearing about gold coffee baskets being promoted as I kept using my filter paper in my machine, try to figure out the difference.
Then one day I discovered the answer... the paper filter traps the coffee oils keeping them out of you cup! Now if you really appreciate a good cup of coffee and want all the coffee goodness you can get, you are going to use a non-paper filter so all those coffee oils end up in your cup, where they belong, that's where the flavor is!

As browse all these pages for coffee lovers I'm sure you'll get a lot out this website. Especially those coffee recipes. I like my coffee with Irish Cream in the evening, check out the coffee recipes with liquor to get the right mix!
